Bonus Craft: Dollhouse Books

I love books, and my favorite kinds of books are miniature books.  I have a collection of them, some dating back to the 1800's. I have toyed with the idea of making them myself for a while.  Here is what I came up with.

As you can see, they are about the size of a postage stamp.  They are fully functioning books with text and black and white illustrations. It is hard to see in this picture, but they are Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Beauty and the Beast.

Here is a link to the PDF I made.  All you have to do is print the first two pages, double-sided.  Be sure to set it to print them flipped along the short side

Cut out the book strip and fold it like a accordion on the lines between pages.

Then print page three on cardstock.  It has the covers of the book.  (I made 4 copies of the each cover, so if you were making multiple copies of each book, you would only have to use one piece of cardstock for 4 copies of the book text.)  Cut out the cover you want, and then use a sharp object (a paring knife works) to gently scribe it where it will be folded. Fold it into a book cover shape.

Brush glue on the inside of the cover, (use a nice tacky glue) and then glue the ends of the text strip to the inside of the front and back of the cover. Fold the other pages into place and press the spine of the cover against the folds of the pages. Let dry.

Since the pages are folded, you will have to slit them to make individual leaves. Using an exacto knife, carefully slit folded pages on the side facing out.

This might sound confusing, but if you actually have the printout in hand, I think it will make sense.

I have a granddaughter who is crazy about Barbie dolls right now. I can't wait to send these to her.
