The New Project: "Anxiety" Bookcase

Here is the new project!  When I was making my first set of mini books I happened on a trend: Anxiety Bookcases. The idea is that you put a bunch of miniature books in a little bookcase with a see-through door.  When you are stressed you shake it up to mix up all the little books. As you start to put them back in order, the repetitive but detailed task helps your emotions to calm down.

When I was a library director and I got really stressed, I would go into the library shelves and spend some time straightening up the books there.  It really is soothing.

That being said, I am not really interested in shaking up my mini bookshelf, but I am interested in filling it with books.  Unlike the ones I saw online, all the books in my mini bookcase will actually be readable books, not just covers over styrofoam.

Here is how I made the bookcase.  I bought a box with a clear lid on Amazon, and some craft wood.  I used an exacto knife to cut the wood so that it could serve as shelves for the bookcase.  Then I stained all the wood, and then painted it with varnish. Finally, I glued the shelves in with wood glue.

Once I got my first books into the bookcase I realized I would have a lot of work to do to fill the whole thing.  Still, I am super excited. This week I have been working on a set of four adventure books and will post them when I get finished.
